I used to believe

A girl I work with loves the Website “I Used to Believe.” It’s actually pretty funny, if you take a look at it and allow yourself to get lost in the world of things people really believed when they were younger. So before I get busy editing a story that needs serious “creative” editing, I thought I’d list a few of my used-to-believes for you all. You know, so you could laugh at me. A bit more than usual.

• I used to believe that commercials on TV were live. Especially cereal commercials during Saturday morning cartoons. I thought that girl had to eat that bowl of cereal over and over and over. Seriously.

• I thought that I could grow to be 6 feet tall. OK, while this is theoretically true, it’s just not genetically possible. I come from a long line of average height to short people. My dad’s like 5 foot 8 and my mom is about my height. We aren’t tall people. My grandparents were average, so were my aunts and uncles. But I thought I was going to be tall and slender. Neither of those things happened! (Tangent: since I saw LeAnn Rimes at the Bon Jovi concert I’ve come to the conclusion that she has great legs. She doesn’t have short, little pistons like me.)

• I used to believe I wanted to be a nightly news anchor. Now I know I would HATE this job. I would like to meet Anderson Cooper, though. (Seriously, I’ve watched him since his early, early days on Channel 1 when I was in high school. And I bought and read and enjoyed his book! I’m a fan, Anderson!)

• I used to believe that I’d always live close enough to see my brother every day.

• I used to believe that leggings (or stirrup pants!) and oversized sweatshirts were an amazingly cool wardrobe combo. Oh, and socks you could scrunch down over the pants. Wow. I was so not cool. (BTW, I’m trying to keep pics from these days under wraps. So you’ll never see them here. Along with the big glasses and large bangs. I should just stop typing right now.)

OK, work awaits. I must accomplish something today! (You know, before I divulge all my embarrassing secrets from the past!)

About Mandy

I'm originally from Southeast Missouri and moved to Nashville to pursue music! OK, not really. I came to Nashville for grad school and stayed. I love this town! My main desire is to use the talents God has given me to serve Him, which is why I currently edit a magazine for teens.

  1. You may think you weren’t cool now, but we were just keeping up with the likes of Debbie Gibson, Blossom, the 90210 kids, etc! And, I just realized I have each and every yearbook from all our glorious years of school…and a scanner. But I wouldn’t do that to you ;)

  2. Pingback: I won’t grow up… @ And in the end…there is love.

  3. OH, no! You can’t scan in those pics of me! I’m trying to at least give off a veneer of coolness these days! :)
BTW, did you hear they’re making a revamp of 90210? And I heard that NKOTB were coming back. Wow.

  4. Mandy, you know I’ll steal this idea at some point. It’s just too fun!

So you had the big bangs/glasses combo too huh? I feel your pain!

I can’t believe NKOTB are back together….sorry but they’re just too old.
